The Battle of Aiken

Last weekend, (Feb. 11, 1865) we witnessed one of the final Confederate victories of the Civil War.

Matthew wields his piece Assisting in an amputation of a wounded soldiers arm. Matthew standing with the S.C. volunteer unit. All the boys taking turns firing an Enfield Black Powder Rifle. New recruits? These next pictures look like they’re out of a movie, but they are all pictures that we took of the battle happening right in front of us! It was very intense to watch!! Guns and canons firing, men falling wounded or dead on the battle field. It really was incredible! The Confederates claiming victory!

To say the kids were not thrilled about going on this adventure would be an understatement, but when they were given the opportunity to fire weapons, tour the camps, and watch the battle, they couldn’t help but to be impressed. They relaxed as the day went on and I think they all really enjoyed it .
