Introducing Captain Matthew!
Matthew has been a part of the schools Safety Patrol for a few months now, but recently he was voted “Captain.” His roles include opening doors for the kids in the car rider line, holding the school door open for students and teachers who are entering, monitoring students in the hallways – making sure they’re not running, etc. Having this job means that Matthew has to get to school at 7:30 two mornings a week and he has to stay until 3:15 two afternoons. He takes this job very seriously and was honored to be voted the Captain!
Matthew loves identifying wildlife. We are constantly pulling out our S.C. reptiles and amphibians book to help us identify things. Matthew’s latest catch was a garter snake. Well at least that’s what we think it was. It had several characteristics of a ribbon snake too, but Matthew decided to go with garter snake. Jokingly, Matthew said he was going to try to charm the snake so he told Ethan to run inside and get his recorder so he could play a song on it. A few minutes later Ethan came out with both his electric and acoustic guitar saying he couldn’t find his recorder, but at least he brought instruments. We laughed so hard, but Ethan sat down very seriously next to the snake and sang Old McDonald had a Farm while strumming his guitar!!!
Before returning the snake to the wild, Matthew and I colored his belly with a purple sharpie so we would know if he ever caught the same one again.
I think I better stop telling stories about our Friday night now….. it’s sounding more and more like “you might be a redneck if…..”
In other Matthew news (for which I don’t have a picture of) he stepped on a nail. The nail was in a piece of wood when he stepped on it and it went into his toe, all the way through to the other side!!!! Thank God Nana and Papa were here for this event so Papa could pull it out. If it was just me here, I would have taken him to the hospital with the wood attached to his foot!!! Anyway, he’s just about completely healed now and hasn’t been seen running around barefoot since!!
